When it comes to understanding the basics of a relationship you would be right in thinking that it rarely gets more basic between two partners than the sexual basis of their relationship. Sex is so basic in how we form and sustain our relationships that it often becomes the catalyst which makes them happen and dysfunctions on that front often also lead to their break down. |

A Brazilian mayor has banned so-called ‘sex bracelets’ worn by children to flaunt their sexual preferences from all public schools, saying they lead to inappropriate discussions. I know, right now you think ‘sex bracelets’, ‘children’, ‘Brazil’, all in about this order and you are right. |

A lot of people associate Saint Valentine’s day with mandatory torture where you need to try hard to be original and pull some sort of mind blowing stunt or you’ll be doomed to fail and the whole world is going to crush you starting with your significant other. Through many years, not without the help of the media, we have been lured into thinking that this particular day must be something out of this world, requiring at least one serious injury due to the strenuous effort involved in getting everything right and a trip or two to the nearest store, buying loads of RED stuff, preferably heart shaped and definitely expensive.
With the economy going to hell retailers are no longer even pretending about romance and they are all busy sticking little hearts on their products suggesting that their products are exactly what your beloved would expect to receive from you. The days when animal names were the exclusive preserve of seek-and-destroy SEAL teams and…well, erm, animals seem to belong, firmly, to the last century. In the 21st century the ages of a woman seem to be described by jungle-themed predatory terms such as: puma, cougar and panther. |

After his marriage to Catherine Zeta-Jones, actor Michael Douglas remarked, “You have to be secure to be married to someone as beautiful as Catherine.” The truth is you have to be secure to make a good relationship work with any woman and herein lies the issue.

News that scientists have discovered a gene that is known to treble your odds of living to 100 and may help you to ward off Alzheimer’s merely adds weight to a wealth of research that states that women especially have a high chance of living until they are well over 100 years old. While this is great news, as you can imagine, it does throw into the limelight a few pointed questions.
Much of what we consider to be socially acceptable and many of our social institutions, such as that of marriage, have been formed by our standard of living and life expectancy. Child brides were the norm once, when people expected to be dead by 50. “Lifelong commitment vows” and staying with the same person all your life was perfectly feasible when that stretch never seemed to exceed thirty years.
